Innovative approaches to improve household sanitation in peri-urban communities

Through the Western Pacific Sanitation Marketing & Innovation Program funded by the Australian Civil Society WASH Fund Live & Learn improved sanitation in two peri-urban areas of Port Vila, capital of Vanuatu, through the establishment of Community Based Sanitation Enterprises to sell affordable sanitation products. A Community Based Sanitation Enterprise (CBSE) is a small business that uses sanitation marketing and human behaviour change concepts to create demand for improved sanitation and hygiene within their target community. This case study report shares the benefits for women and the community achieved through this innovative approach.
