How can education foster sustainable development?
The notion of sustainability has become central in approaches to development; indeed, sustainable development is the only way that societies can improve living standards while ensuring that the environment is protected and that prospects for future generations are not jeopardised.
This manual is designed for teachers wanting to give their students an introduction to sustainability. It takes the approach that Education for Sustainability (EFS) should empower students to be active citizens in the transformation of their societies into sustainable ones. While it includes a selection of worksheets, this manual is primarily intended to support teachers in their lesson planning and to think about different ways of teaching.
