Hands Up for Hygiene!

Want to improve hygiene behaviour in your school?

Hands Up for Hygiene!is a teaching manual to help educators introduce good hygiene behaviour in schools in the Pacific. It is designed for a younger audience (upper primary school students), but can be tailored to suit secondary school students and the wider community. The manual guides educators in using the ‘life-skills’ approach, which focuses on teaching knowledge, attitudes and skills that help people take responsibility and develop new behaviours.

Hands Up for Hygiene! contains flexible modules based on themes such as germs, handwashing and toilets, and includes activities such as testing water, designing dramatic presentations and playing games, which can be linked to the national curricula.  The activities make students aware of the dangers of unhygienic practices, remind them that clean water and healthy sanitation are basic human rights, and help them take control of their health.
