Module 4: Resources from the Environment

How can we ensure that resource use is sustainable for future generations?

This module introduces students to the notion of resource sustainability. It is divided into five sections, each regarding different aspects of resource management. These include energy use in schools and at home, conservation and use of water, waste management, recycling and composting.

This resource is part of the Schools for a Healthy Environment programme, which also includes the following modules: ‘Ourselves’, ‘Earth’, ‘Life Around Us’, ‘Interdependence’, and ‘Science and Technology’.

These modules are designed to supplement teachers of Environmental Studies in schools or educators who are facilitating environmental clubs. Each manual includes instructions for classroom activities, sheets for teachers to help with lesson planning, as well as resource sheets for students to use in the classroom. They feature clear links to relevant areas of the curriculum, and use an inquiry model for learning, where students have greater responsibility for their own learning and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
