Supporting Human Rights and Social Participation of Women in Remote Areas in Fiji

What are the most effective ways to promote women’s participation in human rights and democracy initiatives?

This RAP aimed to understand people’s perspectives of human rights and democracy, and to identify the needs, values and aspirations of communities. It was conducted to support the ‘Supporting Human Rights and Social Participation of Women in Remote Areas in Fiji’ project, funded by the European Union. The project objectives were to mobilise communities around democracy and human rights through women’s groups and initiatives.

This report outlines the key findings. Communities raised issues like a lack of understanding of human rights and democracy, the unequal status of women, the gendered division of labour and security concerns for women. It also includes some useful RAP tools for those wishing to conduct similar research.
