How can we empower students to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes they will need to collaboratively realise sustainable futures?

Local livelihoods in the Maldives are intimately tied to the health of coastal ecosystems. As many people find employment opportunities through tourism and fishing, it is vital that future development strategies are sustainable in ways that preserve things like coral reefs and fisheries.

Part of the key to realising sustainable futures comes through education. This manual provides teachers with some guidelines for how to foster inquiry-based learning experiences. It shows teachers how to approach local issues - such as freshwater depletion, overexploitation or reef resources and rising sea levels - in the classroom using resources in the local environment.
