Job Opportunities 

WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Technical Advisor 
Live & Learn Environmental Education

 
Live & Learn makes a difference. We’re a small, effective network of country offices throughout Asia and the Pacific that implement community-based development projects. Our WASH program is helping schools and communities to provide safe and effectives water and sanitation services, and influence positive behaviour change in hygiene and menstrual health.  
 
THE ROLE
 
Community-based water security planning that is sensitive to the needs of women and vulnerable people in Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands. Innovative toilet and hand washing facilities in primary schools across the South Pacific. Community-led improvements to management menstrual health with dignity in Solomon Islands. Social behaviour change programs targeting hygiene and safe water use in Kiribati. Student-led creative advocacy programs in schools. These are some of the WASH activities that Live & Learn is involved in throughout the South Pacific.

Your role will involve supporting the continued development of our programs, including: advice on innovative, low-cost, design and maintenance of water and sanitation systems; contribution to the development of effective behaviour change campaigns and resources for hygiene and menstrual health; and the support of our country-office teams in overall project management. 
 
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
 
We’re looking for a technical advisor who is knowledgeable and passionate about supporting South Pacific communities, particularly Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Kiribati. 

●    You have an existing network of relationships and contacts in the South Pacific that informs your understanding of the cultural context
●    You are an effective planner, communicator and multi-skilled in all aspects of project management
●    You can adapt to changing circumstances and be responsive to local cultural contexts for water and sanitation
●    You are able to build and maintain relationships with our network office staff through remote support (video conferencing, What’s App, etc)
●    You are excited by regular travel to our network offices in the South Pacific when international travel is possible
●    You enjoy autonomy and working for a small organisation that values independence and resourcefulness over bureaucracy
 
You’ll also have:
 
●    Practical resilient WASH experience (plumbing and building skills and experience)
●    Familiar experience with the interactions of water, sanitation and hygiene with household food security and climate resilience
●    Expertise in project management and supporting local partners in preparation of reports and budget oversight
●    Excellent interpersonal skills when interacting with local teams and partners.
●    Willingness to travel extensively in the South Pacific in the future
●    The right to live and work in Australia

International Programs Administration Officer

Live & Learn Environmental Education

Live & Learn makes a difference. We’re a small, effective network of community development offices throughout Asia and the Pacific that implement community-based development projects focused on climate resilience, nature-based solutions, inclusion and wellbeing.

THE ROLE

Community-based climate resilience planning; community-led water security planning; innovative toilet and hand washing facilities in primary schools across the South Pacific; community-led improvements to management menstrual health with dignity; sustainable land management and food security; waste management and recycling in the Maldives; protection of ecosystems; student-led creative advocacy programs in schools….These are some of the activities that Live & Learn is involved in throughout the South Pacific.

Your role will involve supporting the continued development of our programs through support to our network offices for grant contract administration (including development of budgets and tracking of project activities), and administration and coordination support for the Melbourne office.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We’re looking for a candidate who is knowledgeable and passionate about supporting the grant management and administrative operation of the Live & Learn Melbourne office, and also supporting the Live & Learn network offices in the South Pacific with grant contract management.

  • You are an effective planner, communicator and multi-skilled in many aspects of office administration
  • You have experience in managing development project grants or contracts, including development and oversight of budgets
  • You are able to build and maintain relationships both in the office, and with staff through remote support (video conferencing, What’s App, etc)
  • You can adapt to changing circumstances and be responsive to local cultural contexts
  • You enjoy autonomy and working for a small organisation that values independence and resourcefulness over bureaucracy

You’ll also have:

  • Expertise in project management and supporting local partners in preparation of reports and budget oversight
  • Advanced MS Office skills, especially Excel
  • Familiar with finance reporting software such as MYOB
  • Familiar with project management applications such as Asana
  • Excellent interpersonal skills when interacting with local teams and partners
  • Willingness to travel extensively in the South Pacific in the future
  • The right to live and work in Australia

Communications Specialist

Live & Learn Environmental Education

 

Live & Learn makes a difference. We’re a small, effective network of community development offices throughout Asia and the Pacific that implements community-based development projects focused on climate resilience, nature-based solutions, inclusion and wellbeing. Live & Learn produces various publications that are used throughout the South Pacific and elsewhere to enable practical action in climate resilience, environmental protection, water and sanitation, and community health.

 

THE ROLE

In this role, you will be working within a vibrant team on the following tasks:

  • researching and developing engaging short and long-form content that demonstrates the impact of our work
  • copywriting website landing pages, social media posts, newsletters and other writing tasks, as required
  • planning and coordinating website and social media content
  • creating short videos that demonstrate the impact of our work or contribute to community training activities
  • assisting with simple, in-house graphic design
  • assisting in the maintenance of photo and video databases
  • contributing to and executing content strategy and creating a high standard of content across a wide range of platforms
  • contributing to the production of Live & Learn publications.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

You will thrive in this position if you have:

  • demonstrated cultural connections or relationships with Indigenous cultures, particularly in the South Pacific
  • a Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, advertising or related field
  • passion for the environment, climate resilience, international development, social justice and advocacy
  • demonstrated experience and excellence in copywriting and content development, preferably from the community services sector
  • A proven track record in research, writing and editing for a variety of stakeholders and audience types to publication level, including strong writing and proof-reading skills
  • video and editing skills
  • demonstrated experience in building trustful and positive working relationships with teams in remote locations
  • willingness to be available to deal with the media and travel internationally.
