Environmental Management RAP [2]

Is awareness enough to mobilise communities around environmental management?

This Rapid Assessment of Perceptions was conducted with the aim of supporting the Maldives government in policy making around environmental management. It found that while communities have a good understanding of environmental issues, they lacked the social and economic tools that are required to follow through on that awareness.

Based on this finding, this RAP makes five suggestions around how the government could support environmental management at the community level. Furthermore, the report suggests that environmental education that focuses on biophysical processes, while important, neglects the social and economic processes that mediate environmental practice.
