Access to menstrual products in Solomon Islands

May 28 is international Menstrual Hygiene Day. Adolescent girls and women throughout the world face many challenges in managing their menstruation effectively and with dignity.  A recently completed baseline report discussed menstrual hygiene management with women in Solomon Islands, with 63% of women saying they often don’t have enough money to purchase sanitary pads.

Release of Via River Catchment Fire Management Plan, PNG

On 20 April 2019 Live and Learn Environmental Education released the Via River Catchment Fire Management Plan, which identifies strategies to reduce the impact of wildfires on biodiversity and community resources in Central West New Britain, Papua New Guinea. The strategies will be adapted and used throughout PNG to address the threat of wildfires that are being exacerbated by climate change.

Extending Sanitation Marketing to Fatmilak Village in PNG

Live & Learn PNG in Kavieng, New Ireland Province, have extended the reach of Sanitation Marketing to more communities, with activities commencing in Fatmilak Village in Tikana Local Level Government area. Using the sanitation marketing model established through the Australian government Civil Society Organisation, Live & Learn PNG have helped set up the management of a Community-Based Sanitation Enterprise in Fatmilak Village and trained community youth on toilet construction and environmental protection.
