Clean Communities Toolkit

How can we help communities to take ownership of waste water management initiatives?

Waste management is a pressing environmental issue in the Maldives. The Maldives government have decided on a decentralised approach to delivering effective waste management; however, this approach to changing household practices and empowering community decision-making requires participation at the household level.

This manual is intended to help train government staff or community-based organisations working with communities on waste management.  It contains eleven activities, including instructions and material guides, as well as evaluation resources such as surveys. Through their participation in these activities, communities will be more informed on the principles of waste management, the links between health and the environment, and may feel more empowered to contribute to waste management decision-making.
