Clean, healthy & fresh: sanitation construction manual

Urban development in Solomon Islands presents a number of challenges, including rapid population growth (especially in informal settlements) and limited access to services like electricity, water and sanitation. Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Project (UWSSSP), implemented by Solomon Water and funded by the Asian Development Bank, will improve access to safe water and improved sanitation in urban and peri-urban areas.

Plan International, in partnership with Solomon Water & Live & Learn Environmental Education, has taken the lead on the strengthening water, sanitation, and hygiene programs and practices. This includes Volume 1 & 2 of a sanitation construction manual to support the high demand for upgraded sanitation systems.

The recommended sanitation packages, for use in urban environments, are displayed with step by step diagrams, cost breakdowns and material lists. Design choices can be made based on site conditions, compatibility of components, household preference and budget.
