How can we promote better waste management?

The environment in the Maldives is coming under threat as the population continues to grow, and as living standards and consumption levels increase. In this context, waste has emerged as a major threat to the environments that people live in.

These manuals are designed for facilitators working with communities and with retailers to raise awareness around waste issues and management. They discuss four key messages: how to reduce waste, the consequences of poor waste management, stakeholder responsibility for waste management and the ‘polluter pays’ principle. They also include ideas for group activities, helpful worksheets like household waste surveys and waste reduction plans, as well as a series of factsheets that can be used in learning sessions.
